In
1993 bought a place in the country, a blacksmith shop from the 19th century,
and made his home and studio there. As he was raised a city dude he came awful
close to losing his marbles during those first three years. His insulation was
ruined by squirrels, the pipes froze, the wood stove had cracks, the county
raised his taxes, there was an outstanding complaint from before he purchased
the property etc., - fortunately his friend and former wheat critic, Don Kerr,
woke him up and helped facilitate the completion of this cd which almost won
the Juno award for best record ever made in a blacksmith shop under duress over
2 or three years.
Fiona
Kinsella did the brilliant collage which depicts, among other things, the
places and situations that are sung about. Originally a famous photo by Dorothea
Lange was 'appropriated' but since Warner would not allow "the Geffen song"
and since they removed "Rock and Tree" from "In Her Dream"
we figured we shouldn't risk any art libel and used instead a photo of Fiona's
lovely niece, Chloe...who is now no doubt an adult. Does she even know she is
on the cover of this cd? Fiona also introduced me to Mr. Bean who has faithfully
served as my guardcat, wrestling intruders to the ground on at least three occasions.
